Is YOY same store sales growth a valid QSR restaurant performance metric in recessionary times? I propose that a better metric is YOY profitability! But the entire retail and restaurant industry has been addicted to this business cocaine drug for decades. Every business stays healthy based on profitability growth, which can be achieved even during a sales downturn. Another thought, 0% same store sales growth in the restaurant business may be an acceptable business metric for now.
